If you want to shorten your chains you will need two of these little slings and we sell them in pairs.
 
Your chains will come with each end of the chain loop attached to a quicklink. You can't shorten the chains by putting a quicklink through a midpoint chain link because they won't fit. You'll need to thread the little sling through the chain link and then choke it. You can then attach the other end of the little sling to your quicklink and then to your paw plate as normal.
